i discovered "rocky horror"when i was in college. i was in this very gendernon-conforming space. and this frank-n-furtercharacter in this film gave me so much morepermission to just go for it. over the next severalyears, meeting real transgender people, my owngender exploration led me here. and i feel like in somany ways this movie was the beginning of meallowing myself to fully be. since it was announced thati'm playing dr. frank-n-furter,
so many people in the transcommunity have come up to me and said, i went indrag for the first time and everybody just thought iwas doing "rocky horror picture show," but that wasreally who i was, and that was the spacewhere i could express that, and eventually i transitioned. there's all those kindsof amazing stories. [music - the rocky horror picture show, "don't dream it"] don't dream it, be it.
for 40 years, people who feltdifferent in some sort of way have seen this filmand connected to it. and i have been oneof those people. and it is my hope that ourreimagining of "rocky horror picture show" will bethat for a new generation, will be that place, thatspace where people can not just dream it but really be it.
