[sparking electricity] i discovered "rockyhorror picture show" when i was in college. i had a shaved head andi wore false eyelashes to ballet class every day. and here i was,i saw this movie, and its character calleddr. frank n furter, and i saw myself. and it was so unbelievablytransformative for me.
oh, rocky! as soon as we castlaverne cox, we made a statement that weare doing this movie again for the 21st century. so it's not a remake,it's reimagined. we agreed that there had tobe a real reason at the center of this project thatwould inspire us all and give us the courage tomove forward with this idea. suddenly the namelaverne cox came to us,
and we all immediatelyloved the idea. and we discoveredthat all of her life she'd wanted to play thispart, so she knew the material, and she was respectfulof its history. tim curry's performanceis so iconic, and we really are trying tofind our own spin on everything. kenny ortega has somereally imaginative ideas on where we can gowith this that we didn't go the first time.
laverne: i thinkit's really exciting that our cast is so diverse. there's a referencethat everyone involved with this projecthas for the original. we're not competingwith the movie. if we wanted tocompete with the movie, we'd make a moviefor the big screen. this is a celebration, a totaltribute, and a thank you. that's what we're doing here.
